Complete temperature guide for dry herb vaporizers covering low (flavor), medium (balanced), and high (clouds) settings.
Temperature Guide for Dry Herb Vaporizers
Temperature is the single most important variable when using a vaporizer. Different settings produce dramatically different experiences.
Low: 180-190°C — Flavor Zone
- Vapor: Light and wispy, may be barely visible
- Flavor: At its peak. You can taste the full terpene profile of your herbs
- Effect: Mild and relaxing, suitable for daytime use
- Best for: Beginners, flavor enthusiasts, daytime sessions
- Compounds extracted well at this range: terpenes (aromatic compounds) and low-temperature volatiles
Medium: 190-210°C — Balanced Zone
- Vapor: Clearly visible, moderate density
- Flavor: Still flavorful but with added depth and intensity
- Effect: Balanced between flavor and efficiency
- Best for: Everyday users, all-purpose sessions
- Most popular setting: 195°C — the sweet spot that most users prefer
High: 210-230°C — Cloud Zone
- Vapor: Thick and abundant, highly visible
- Flavor: Reduced compared to lower temps, may have a slight bitter edge
- Effect: Strong and full, best for evening or nighttime use
- Best for: Experienced users who want maximum vapor density
- Warning: Do not exceed 230°C as this approaches combustion temperature, which defeats the purpose of vaporizing
The Step-Up Technique
The best approach is to start low and gradually increase:
1. Start at 185°C — take 3-4 draws to enjoy the purest flavor
2. Increase to 195°C — take 3-4 more draws as vapor density increases
3. Finish at 210°C — draw until the herbs are fully extracted
